Paco picks up scorers' prize

Spain may have missed out on the UEFA European Under-17 Championship title but captain Paco took the honours on the goalscoring front.

Although he did not score in Sunday's 2-1 final loss to England, Paco's finals tally of six equalled the best since the showpiece stage was reduced to eight teams in 2002/03; the record of seven was set by Spain's Jonathan Soriano in the 16-nation 2001/02 edition. Also the top scorer in qualifying with eight, Paco's total makes the Valencia CF forward the most prolific player since the U17 classification was introduced in 2001/02, beating the record of 13 set four years ago by Germany's Manuel Fischer.

Paco was three goals clear of a trio of players: team-mate Gerard and England's Connor Wickham, who both scored in the final, and Turkey captain Artun Akçakin. On the roll of honour Paco joins names including Bojan Krkić and Toni Kroos, who on Saturday won his third senior Germany cap.
