Having won England's first UEFA European Under-17 Championship title, coming from behind to beat Spain 2-1 in the final in Vaduz to complete a campaign of 11 straight victories, the players are coming to terms with their achievement.
Captain Conor Coady realised his dream of picking up the trophy and paid tribute to goalscorers Andre Wisdom and Connor Wickham. Defender Wisdom, Coady's Liverpool FC club-mate, described how he picked himself up after deflecting in Spain's opener to head the equaliser while Ipswich Town FC striker Wickham described the "amazing feeling" of scoring the winner. All three spoke to UEFA.com.
Conor Coady, captain
It was unreal [to lift the trophy],
I couldn't believe it was happening. I've dreamt about the day I'd do it and now I've done it; they can never take that back, I've always got that memory. They had a quality side and in the last 20, 25 minutes they battered us, it was an onslaught. But I thought we defended well in the end and came out as champions. I know how good a player Andre is, he shows it week in week out for our club – he's absolutely superb. The goal today capped off his tournament, he was a fantastic in the second half, he showed what his defensive qualities are.
When you have a player like Connor up front you know he'll score; if you give him the ball he'll do something with it, and that's what he did today. This has just capped off what the U17s have achieved this season, it's been absolutely fantastic. We've got great individual players and great team spirit, it's unbelievable.
Andre Wisdom, first goalscorer
As a defender you come up against very talented strikers, some games are easier than others: this was a very tough game. The first goal took a bit of a deflection off me so my head got a bit down. I told myself I had to keep going, keep going for the team, and when I equalised with a header I was just happy. Then I was ready to go again, forget about it and go until the final whistle.
It was good that Connor Wickham got the goal early in the second half, a fantastic goal. They got on the front foot and started attacking until the 83rd minute. It was a very good game and
I'm happy for the team, it's a great achievement for England to win this ... This will go down in history.
Connor Wickham, second goalscorer
It's a great end to the season. All the boys have worked amazingly hard and we've come so far to do it – I'm over the moon about it. Spain are probably the best team we have played against, that we've faced coming through the rounds, since we've all been together. They did push us all the way and we pushed them all the way – thankfully we won.
[For the goal] I got the ball in a good position from Will [Keane]; there was just one thing on my mind, to go for goal, and that's what I did and I just slotted it in the corner.
For me it is an amazing feeling to get the winning goal for my country. This has topped everything I've done this season.
