Maisuradze exhausted, Böger impressed

Georgia coach Vasil Maisuradze said that the emotion of beating Iceland to reach the UEFA European Under-17 Championship final four has taken its toll on him, while his fellow semi-finalist Stefan Böger praised a top display from his team. Elimiated duo Gunnar Gudmundsson and Jean-Claude Giuntini both told of their disappointment to be leaving Slovenia.

Going into the locker room with all the boys so disappointed is hard. We have been together a long time. I don't think we played very well in the first half, I think we had some problems. But in the second half we did better and I had a good feeling. We had a chance to equalise but in the end it is a big disappointment. But that is football. The players are heroes for me, and I'm just sorry it had to end like this.

Right now I am exhausted by all the emotion! I have to congratulate everyone in Georgia – this is a big, important result for our little country. My guys played very well, and I have told them that. I was afraid, because their goalkeeper played very well and I wasn't sure if the goal would come. But the boys did everything and this was our day. It was a very tough, physical game, but I felt we controlled it. In the end, the only problem of the day was Nika Tchanturia, who I had to substitute because he was running a bit of a high temperature.

I think today was an excellent performance. We were very well prepared, but it is a good feeling to know I have more than 11 players to call upon. No, we did not need to win, but my team played like it, and so did I. I was very animated and excited on the bench because I know their characters, and they need a coach that comes to the side to help them. We couldn't celebrate after Monday, and we still cannot. We must stay serious and focused. We are happy, but it is important to stay calm and concentrate on regeneration for the Poland match.

We are not surprised by how well Germany played, because German football is very good, but we are disappointed. We had a plan to keep possession, but we found it very hard to keep hold of the ball and play our game. Our players were too far apart from each other when we got the ball, and it made it hard to pass like we normally do. We went about the game with tranquillity, so I don't think it was pressure that got to them. I think we just struggled to get into a rhythm on the park. I am very, very disappointed to not reach the last four. At 0-0 we had a penalty, which gave us the feeling that the match was going to swing our way. We missed. It was a decisive moment.
