Berenstein out of Netherlands' U17 campaign

Anthony Berenstein will miss the rest of the Netherlands' campaign, with Guido Janssen taking his place, while Malta and Turkey have also been forced to make changes.

The Netherlands, Malta and Turkey have all been forced to make changes to their UEFA European Under-17 Championship squads due to injuries.

The Dutch are through to the semi-finals with a match to spare, but will have to negotiate the rest of the tournament without Anthony Berenstein. The FC Utrecht forward, who started five of the Netherlands' six qualifiers and both of their Group A games so far, came off after 22 minutes of the 5-2 win against Malta on Monday. He sustained ankle ligament damage and has been replaced by club-mate Guido Janssen.

Also injured in that same game at Gozo Stadium was the hosts' Christian Degabriele, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee just after half-time. He is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months. Luke Galea of Hamrun Spartans FC has filled the void left by his absence in the squad ahead of Malta's final game of the finals, against Turkey on Thursday.

Hakan Tecimer's side, who are also eliminated, will be without Furkan Ünver (dead leg) and Savaş Polat (chest) for that fixture. Hertha BSC Berlin's Uğur Tezel and Mehmet Çelik of Bursaspor have joined the Turkey squad in their place.
