Group A
Azerbaijan 1-1 Belgium
Murad Mahmudov's late strike earned the hosts their first point in U17 finals history and denied Belgium an early place in the knockout stage. Beaten 5-0 by Portugal on Thursday, Azerbaijan showed admirable spirit and commitment. Nevertheless, they were heading for another defeat once Adrien Bongiovanni seized on a mistake by the otherwise impressive Huseyin Seylighli eight minutes from time. Mahmudov, who replaced the injured Yusif Hasanov midway through the first half, sent the 5,000-plus crowd home happy, giving Pilagha Mehdiyev's solo run and pass the coup de grace it deserved.

Portugal 2-0 Scotland
Hélio Sousa's slick side made it two wins and as many clean sheets in Baku with an eye-catching display that secured their berth in the quarter-finals. Scotland's Aidan McAdams did his best to frustrate Portugal in the first period, pulling off a number of fine saves. However, with three minutes of the half left, José Gomes found Quina in space on the edge of the area and the midfielder drilled a low shot past the Celtic keeper. Portugal then cut through Scotland at will after the break, and they got a merited second when Gomes, with his back to goal, intelligently headed in Gedson Fernandes' floated ball from the right.

Group B
Germany 3-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Germany require a point against Austria on Wednesday to join Andreas Heraf's team in the last eight thanks to two goals from Yari Otto inside the last quarter of an hour. At that point Bosnia and Herzegovina were hanging on valiantly with ten players, Rijad Sadiku having been dismissed a minute into the second half. Otto's first came courtesy of a wonderful arcing pass from fellow substitute Jan-Niklas Beste; his second was a header from Milan Mirić's miscued clearance. The debutants had taken the lead through Tom Baack's early own goal. Their advantage proved short-lived, though, Atakan Akkaynak equalising from the spot after Edis Smajić had nudged Renat Dadashov over.

Ukraine 0-2 Austria
Austria became the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals by defeating Ukraine in the early game. They were ahead within seven minutes, Romano Schmid muscling his way past two defenders and converting a one-on-one chance. The Sturm Graz playmaker recorded his second assist of the finals midway through the half, squaring a ball that was dummied twice on its way through to captain Valentino Müller, who scored from 12 metres. Ukraine rallied thereafter, their best opportunity coming when Olexiy Kashchuk headed against the bar.
