Belgium and Germany are handily placed to follow Austria and Portugal into the last eight as Groups A and B conclude, with Azerbaijan and Ukraine's hopes slender.

Group A
Belgium 2-0 Scotland

Azerbaijan 0-5 Portugal
Azerbaijan 1-1 Belgium
Portugal 2-0 Scotland

Portugal v Belgium (Dalga Stadium, 14.00CET)
• The manner of already-qualified Portugal's victories is a source of pride for Hélio Sousa, whose side have yet to concede a goal in Baku. "We are stamping our identity on games," Sousa told UEFA.com. "We are being very strong defensively and creating many chances."

• Thierry Siquet was disappointed with Belgium's profligacy against Azerbaijan on Sunday: "We had some ten opportunities, while Azerbaijan had one and they scored [three minutes from time]." Still, the second-placed Red Devils' superior goal difference and three-point lead over the hosts means they hold all the aces in terms qualification.

Scotland v Azerbaijan (14.00, 8km Stadium)
• "No matter what happens in the last game, my players are going home better for the experience of being here." That was what Scot Gemmill was keen to emphasise after Scotland's second loss of the finals, against Portugal, ended their hopes. "It's important to stress the level the boys are playing at. Two years ago I remember facing Portugal and [Renato] Sanches was playing for them. Now there's talk of him being transferred for €45m."

• Heartened by the "fighting spirit" displayed at the weekend, Tabriz Hasanov wants his players to give it one last push against Scotland, even though the hosts' 5-0 loss to Portugal on opening night means their prospects of overhauling Belgium are slim. "I saw a little bit of how Scotland played against Portugal," he said. "They have a quick, technically skilled and quality team; they are good physically too. We will do our best to beat them. We need that victory – we still have a mathematical chance."

Group B
Austria 2-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ukraine 2-2 Germany
Germany 3-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ukraine 0-2 Austria

Bosnia and Herzegovina v Ukraine (17.15, 8km Stadium)
• Bosnia and Herzegovina aim to conclude their debut U17 finals on a high and "finish third in our group". For Sakib Malkočević, the week and a half his squad has spent in Azerbaijan has been a "great experience": "They have shown that they deserve to play at this level. It will be useful for the rest of their careers."

• Olexandr Petrakov is all but resigned to an early exit. Ukraine must defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina and hope Austria overcome Germany to have any possibility of progressing. "We're practically out of the competition," he said, clearly dispirited after his charges "blew it" against Austria. "The most important thing is psychology. We spent quite a while telling the lads not to listen to the congratulations [after the 2-2 draw with Germany], to avoid the euphoria, but it was to no avail."

Germany v Austria (17.15, Dalga Stadium)
• Having come off the bench and tilted the game in Germany's favour with two goals against ten-man Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yari Otto has given coach Meikel Schönweitz a decision to make for a match they only need a point from. "He's a great guy," said Schönweitz of the Wolfsburg forward. "It was hard for him not starting, but we hoped that by bringing him on he would score – and he did."

• Andreas Heraf is pleased his players will go into their final group fixture with the pressure off. "[Victory over Ukraine] was not the result we expected, but it was our wish," he explained. "I told my team I did not want the last game against Germany to be decisive." Of that contest, Heraf said: "I have two suspended and another one is injured so some players will start that did not last time."
