Israel and Serbia pip Iceland

Israel and Serbia moved through from UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round Group 7 but last season's surprise final tournament contenders Iceland have seen their hopes of joining them fade.

Iceland beaten
It began badly for Luka Kostic's Iceland with a 1-0 loss to hosts Serbia in Kragujevac, Predrag Stefanović scoring on three minutes. The other opening game was drawn 0-0 between Israel and Lithuania in Jagodina.

Serbia through
Serbia then travelled to Jagodina and beat Lithuania 2-0 with a goal late in each half from Danijel Aleksić. That ensured the hosts' progress to the Elite round, as Israel beat Iceland 3-0 in Kragujevac with penalties either side of half-time by Moshe Barak - Haukur Örn Hardarson sent off in conceding the second - and an injury-time strike from substitute Timor Avitan, though by that stage Israel had also been reduced to ten men with Moshe Lugassi's second yellow card.

Israel top
Israel were to join them, courtesy of a 2-1 win against Serbia in Kragujevac on Matchday 3, while Iceland overcame Lithuania 1-0 in Jagodina. However, Iceland must wait for the remaining nine of 13 mini-tournaments to be completed before discovering if they will go through as one of the two third-placed teams with the best record against the leading pair in their pool.
