Hungary send holders crashing

Hungary held their nerve to reach the UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals - and in doing so eliminated holders Switzerland.

Point enough
Hungary went into their final game in the Group 5 mini-tournament in Greece needing just a point against Albania to progress and duly secured it, despite a few frights, with a 3-3 draw. Even if the Hungarians had lost though they would still have progressed, courtesy of Greece and Switzerland's 1-1 final-day draw.

Greece edge Albania
Earlier in the tournament, Greece and Hungary had edged the first set of matches. Greece left it late to overcome Albania in their opener, Leonidas Kyvelidis scoring the only goal of the game ten minutes from full-time.

Holders defeated
A similar 1-0 scoreline saw the Swiss defeated by Hungary. Balazs Dzsudzsak scored two minutes before half-time to leave the holders in early danger of ejection.

Back on track
Switzerland got their campaign back on track in the next set of fixtures as they beat Albania 1-0. In a tight game, the sending-off of Albania’s Erald Guna on 68 minutes proved decisive, Fabrizio Zambrella scoring the Swiss goal with a quarter-hour to go.

Feczesin double
Hungary, though, ensured they needed just a point against Albania in their final match as they overcame Greece 2-0. Robert Feczesin proved the matchwinner for Hungary, with goals on 14 and 68 minutes.

Hungary for success
Hungary's success means that they will take place in this summer's eight-team finals in Portugal, which run from 7-17 May.
