Serbia moved a point clear in UEFA European Under-17 Championship elite round Group 6 but missed the chance to take a bigger lead against a Hungary side reduced to ten players for most of the match.

Having beaten Switzerland on Thursday while Hungary were losing to Germany, Serbia were keen on a second win and looked well-placed to grab it when their opponents had Zsolt Tar sent off in the 29th minute. Aleksandar Jovanovič's side could not force a winner, however, and still need to beat holders Germany on Tuesday to ensure qualification.

Tar's dismissal came about when he brought down Stevan Lukovič on the edge of the area, Lukovič having been sent clear by Uglješa Radinovič. Srdan Mijailovič sent the free-kick just wide, and after the break Jovanovič opted to send on younger talents Dejan Georgijevič, Lazar Markovič and Millos Šaka. They could not produce a winner, though, with Markovič hitting the post ten minutes from time. Hungary face Switzerland on Tuesday knowing a win could give them a mathematical chance of qualifying as best runners-up.
