The Netherlands and Poland confirmed their places in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship semi-finals after playing out a goalless draw in Lendava.

The result means Albert Stuivenberg's title holders top Group B having accumulated five points from three games, with Poland finishing behind the Dutch in second on goal difference.

With both sides needing a point to ensure a last-four berth, the opening stages were somewhat cautious as the game proceeded at a comfortable pace. The Netherlands were in no mood to neglect their patient passing approach, although it often hindered them as Poland formed a staunch defensive shape to successfully nullify their opponents.

It therefore came as no surprise when Tonny Trindade de Vilhena resorted to sheer audacity, and although his curling free-kick cleared the wall, Oskar Pogorzelec tipped the ball round a post. Queensy Menig breathed new life into the Oranje on the half-hour mark, showing guile to beat his man at the byline, but his centre flashed across goal.

At the other end, Mariusz Stępiński created Poland's solitary opportunity, drifting in from the right before having a fierce drive palmed away by Nick Olij. Poland emerged after the break with renewed purpose and almost capitalised when Karol Linetty blasted wide from close range after the Netherlands failed to deal with a long throw.

With chances few and far between the game ultimately ended in stalemate, despite De Vilhena embarking on a late surging run which ended with his left-footed effort being comfortably fielded by Pogorzelec.
