Dutch leave it late to down ten-man Georgia

Netherlands 2-0 Georgia
This year's final will be a repeat of the 2011 decider after the Netherlands ended ten-man Georgia's resistance to book a meeting with Germany.

The Netherlands beat a brave ten-man Georgia team 2-0 to set up a second successive UEFA European Under-17 Championship final against Germany.

Georgia started with optimism but suffered a huge blow when Nika Tchanturia picked up two yellow cards inside of a minute to leave Vasil Maisuradze's side a man down with 64 minutes to play. Georgia's defence held firm until the 79th minute, but goals from Jorrit Hendrix and Thom Haye put them to the sword.

Some smart combinations had Georgia on the front foot at the outset, with Netherlands initially looking unsure of their gameplan. But two quick bookings for captain Tchanturia changed everything.

No longer uncertain, the Netherlands kept the ball and made Georgia work, stretching the play and probing patiently. The tactics may have been sensible, but they only paid dividends once before the break. A stretched Georgia struggled with a Queensy Menig run and his cutback was met by a thunderous Joris Voest drive. Aleksandre Adamia beat the ball away.

After the restart Adamia quickly picked up from where he left off. First he blocked Rai Vloet's effort with his legs in a one-on-one duel, before flying to his right to keep out Jeroen Lumu's angled blast.

But Georgia regrouped, and against their two watertight banks of four the Netherlands found space – and chances – at a premium. The Jong Oranje exploded into life with time ebbing away, however, Nathan Ake acrobatically volleying against the bar before setting up the opener.

It came cruelly late, but Ake's back-post cross was perfect, and Hendrix finished it off expertly with a looping header. As Georgia pressed for a leveller, Tonny Trindade de Vilhena rolled a pass to an unmarked Haye, who placed the ball past Adamia to set up a repeat of last year's showpiece, which Albert Stuivenberg's team won 5-2.
