Czechs complete Elite round lineup

The 28-team lineup for the Elite round draw in Nyon on 5 December is now known after the Czech Republic booked the last available place on Sunday.

Iceland delight
Group 10, the last of the 12 qualifying round pools to commence, was decided on Sunday with Turkey, who already had clinched progress with a match to spare, joined by the Czech Republic. Results in the mini-tournament in Luxembourg were also good news for Iceland, who competed in Group 6, as they were confirmed as the third-placed team with the best record against the top two in their pool, allowing them to move through an U19 round for the first time. Turkey fielded much of their 2004/05 UEFA European U17 Championship-winning squad and are aiming to become the first nation to follow success in that competition with the U19 crown two years later.

Italy boost
Holders Spain, bidding for their fourth U19 title in six seasons, were automatically entered into the Elite round along with 2003 winners Italy and England as those top three seeds were given byes. That trio joined Austria for the annual warm-up tournament for the seeds and finals hosts, held in some of the venues to be used next July. Italy emerged triumphant, as their 2-1 opening-day win against Austria in Pasching was the only game not to end as a draw.

Azerbaijan best
Spain, Italy, England and the 25 successful qualifying round contenders will be split into seven groups of four, with the mini-tournament winners joining Austria in the finals. Among the other sides to have made it through are 2005 champions France, last season's runners-up Scotland, and Azerbaijan, making progress for the first time in 13 attempts at U19 and U18 level.
