Hard work the key, says Bílek

Group B reaction: Czech Republic coach Michal Bílek was delighted by a much-improved performance.

'Played much better'
The Czechs produced the perfect response to Friday's 4-1 defeat by Austria as they secured the three points which earned them a semi-final meeting with Italy. "We played much better than against Austria - from the first minute we gave 100 per cent, we were very active and made no mistakes in defence," Bílek said.

Hard work
"We really wanted to win the game. Against Austria we just wanted to play, not to work as a team. Here we didn't want to sit back, we wanted to get forward and use the flanks."

Baxter disappointed
England coach Stuart Baxter said he was disappointed with his side's reaction to conceding the opening goal to Lukas Nachtman early in the second half - two more goals followed in the next 15 minutes.

'Reaction not good enough'
"It's a massive disappointment for the players because tactically they played a very good first half," he said. "We knew that the Czechs were going to put everything into this game and we wanted to make them work in the first half and take the sting out of them and we did that. Where we went wrong was our reaction in going 1-0 down was not good enough.

'Players went flat'
"We had a few players who reacted to it by going flat. We had a few players who allowed it to affect them so technically they became very poor. Before we reacted we'd gone 2-0 down. When we went 1-0 down the reaction was not strong enough - we were still in it, one goal and we were through."

Gludovatz satisfied
Group winners Austria drew 1-1 with France in the day's other game in Triesen and will face Portugal next in the last four. Coach Paul Gludovatz said: "We tried out best and everybody could see that we played very well. We were the better team and we should have won the game. France were lucky to draw as we had more chances to score."
