Austria took three points from their neighbours in UEFA European Under-19 Championship Group A, early goals from Sinan Bytyqi and Markus Blutsch unsettling finals hosts Hungary.
• Sinan Bytyqi makes breakthrough from the penalty spot
• Markus Blutsch and Peter Michorl extend Austria's lead
• Hungary meet Portugal next, Austria take on Israel
The home side never quite recovered from conceding those early strikes – a penalty and a goal from open play – and Peter Michorl's effort early in the second half killed off any serious hopes of a revival for Géza Mészöly’s team. Substitute Szabolcs Varga headed their sole response on the night, and they will hope for better when they take on Portugal on Tuesday.
Manchester City FC man Bytyqi finished from the spot on 15 minutes after Hungary goalkeeper Alex Hrabina brought down Valentin Grubeck, and the latter was involved again for the second goal, squaring for Blutsch to rifle the ball past a helpless Hrabina into the near left corner. Gergely Bobál had the host team's best chance of the first half, but his low shot from Zsolt Kalmár's pass was saved by Austria goalkeeper Ivan Lucic, Zoltán Medgyes hitting the rebound wide.
Midfielder Michorl went close just before the break, and got on the scoresheet in delightful fashion two minutes into the second half, his free-kick from 20 metres curling past Hrabina into the far-right corner of the net. Varga gave Hungary hope on the hour mark when he nodded in Zoltán Farkas' deflected cross at the back post but try as they might, Mészöly’s team could not reduce the deficit any further.
