Germany ease past Austria and into Under-19 final

Germany 4-0 Austria
First-half goals from Davie Selke and Marc Stendera were added to by Levin Öztunali and Hany Mukhtar as Germany reached their third final.

Germany reached the UEFA European Under-19 Championship final for the third time as a dominant display saw off neighbours Austria in Budapest.

First-half goals from Selke (20) and Stendera (30)
Öztunali (58), Mukhtar (68)
Germany play Portugal or Serbia in Thursday's final

Germany carried their impressive group form into the knockout phase, Davie Selke taking his finals tally to six goals with the opener midway through the first period and Marc Stendera adding a fine second shortly afterwards. Beaten in their two previous semi-final appearances, Austria's flickering hopes were extinguished in the second half by further goals from Levin Öztunali and Hany Mukhtar, as Germany seek to add to their 2008 triumph in this competition.

Marcus Sorg's side pushed forward from the outset and had a effort disallowed before two minutes had been played before Julian Brandt and Hany Mukhtar combined to set Selke clear on the right. The striker steered his shot wide of the far post and fired another angled effort straight at goalkeeper Ivan Lucic – but in the 20th minute he made no mistake.

Stendera was the architect, collecting possession after Austria had failed to clear a corner and delivering a perfect cross from the right for Selke's head to glance. Provider turned scorer ten minutes later although there was an element of luck in the way the ball rebounded to Stendera just inside the area; the emphatic finish needed no such fortune.

Austria had not been without a threat, Florian Grillitsch and Sinan Bytyqi both menacing the German defence while Markus Blutsch flashed a shot wide a minute into the second period. That was as good as it got, however, Stendera setting Öztunali clear to drive in a third two minutes before the hour before Mukhtar tapped in a fourth to crown Germany's evening.
