What a night for England - after two final defeats, they've finally claimed a first UEFA European Under-19 Championship title. It's been quite some year for England's age-group teams: FIFA U-20 World Cup winners, European U17Championship runners-up and European U21 Championship semi-finalists. The future looks bright!
EnglandKeith Downing, England coach: "It's created a huge momentum this year. We have heavily invested in St Georges' Park in the last five years. What we need to do now is sustain this success and continue working through all the age groups. It's been a big year for us and we'll enjoy it, but we'll continue to work."
Lukas Nmecha (England)Keith Downing, England coach: "We showed another side of ourselves today, more of a defensive side – there was some real good defending, individually and as a group."
Keith Downing, England coach: "Every game is tough – the Czech Republic gave us a real tough game and Portugal did so again today, but these boys are real talented youngster. Six boys are under-18 so it's a young group, but they showed resilience as well as quality."
Keith Downing, England coach: "We got a really important lead, Portugal came back at us and we hit them on the counterattack. With the sending-off we dug in, showed great character and got us over the line."
Lukas Nmecha (England)Keith Downing, England coach : "Portugal put us under a lot of pressure; early on the use of the ball was disappointing. We were a little bit nervous, edgy, but we grew into the game and got a foothold in the game the last 15 minutes of the first half. At half-time we asked them to relax, believe in themselves and play the football they have in the tournament."
Hélio Sousa, Portugal coach: "Congratulations to England, they're an amazing team – the two best teams in the final. And we'll fight again next season."
Hélio Sousa, Portugal coach:: "We tried to score, many times, and created some more chances to make it 2-2 but we weren't clinical. We weren't efficient enough in front of goal today but I'm very proud. It was a great tournament – even though we haven't got the trophy."
Hélio Sousa, Portugal coach: "It was an amazing match; two teams who wanted to play. We tried to get the first goal but instead went 1-0 down so we really went for the equaliser, got that, and continued to play our way with our own, strong identity. We were magnificent, I'm very proud of them, but we couldn't get the second goal – England did."
Lukas Nmecha (England)The England celebrations are just beginning I think - no sign of any of the players wanting to leave the pitch just yet!
'We are the champions' ringing out - England taking the trophy on a well-deserved lap of honour.
England players holding a No5 shirt in tribute to injured Trevoh Chalobah - nice touch.
Generous applause for Portugal as they head up to collect their losers' medals.
