Czechs face Swiss challenge

The draw for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs paired holders Czech Republic with Switzerland.

The Czech Republic were given a tough tie against Switzerland in today's draw for the 2002/04 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Difficult task
Despite the strength of the Swiss at youth level, the Czechs, who beat France 3-1 on penalties to lift the trophy in the 2002 final, will be confident of success. France, meanwhile, were paired with Portugal in a mouthwatering match between two of the strongest European football nations.

November ties
The draw, which featured 16 countries after the completion of the qualifying round at the weekend, was held at Frankfurt's Airport Sheraton at 12.00CET. The play-offs will take place on 15/16 November and 18/19 November, with the eight winners progressing to next year's final tournament.
