Swiss hit their stride in Tallinn

Estonia 0-4 Switzerland
Switzerland won for the first time in qualifying to move back in contention in Group 5.

Switzerland won for the first time in qualifying for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship to move back in contention in Group 5. After kicking off their campaign with a draw and a defeat Switzerland took command in Tallinn, beating Estonia 4-0 with two goals from Eren Derdiyok and one each from Julian Esteban and Murat Ural.

Derdiyok double
Switzerland were quickly on to the attack and on eleven minutes UC Sampdoria winger Reto Ziegler shot narrowly over Stanislav Pedõk's crossbar. Less than a minute later, however, the FC Flora goalkeeper had no chance as Derdiyok fired his side ahead, connecting with Frank Feltscher's cross from the right with a superb left-foot volley. Derdiyok was on target again in the 49th minute, this time turning in Esteban's low cross to collect his fourth goal of the campaign.

Ural strikes
Estonia had their best chance in the 57th minute when Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer dropped the ball, but Sander Puri was unable to put away the loose ball. Within 60 seconds Estonia were made to pay, as Stade Rennais FC forward Esteban broke swiftly before shooting calmly past Pedõk. A hard night for Estonia was compounded when Swiss substitute Ural, who had only been on the pitch for a minute, pounced on an error by Pedõk and rolled the ball into an empty net with 16 minutes to play.
