England continue their advance

England made it five wins out of five in their 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign after goals from Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner gave them a 2-0 victory against Bulgaria in Milton Keynes.

Even first half
Bulgaria, who had beaten Portugal in their last Group 3 game last month, started confidently and produced the first shot on target when Valeri Domovchiyski tested England goalkeeper Joe Hart at his near post. England got into the game as the first half progressed and squandered a great opportunity to take the lead when centre-back David Wheater screwed his shot wide with just Bulgaria keeper Nikolay Mihaylov to beat following Milner's headed knock-down.

Agbonlahor breakthrough
The deadlock was broken four minutes before half-time when Milner's right-footed cross was met by Agbonlahor at the near post and he guided his header in off the post. Almost immediately Bulgaria went very close to levelling when Domovchiyski's cross caused mayhem in the England penalty box and Joe Mattock had to backheel off his own goalline. Moments later Domovchiyski missed his kick when clean through on Hart.

Walcott menace
Theo Walcott had two clear-cut chances to start the second half with, but could not apply the finishing touch on either occasion. The Arsenal FC forward was proving a constant threat to the visitors and won a penalty in the 82nd minute after being upended by Mihaylov. Milner converted from the spot to round off the win and keep England top of the section while Bulgaria lie fourth.
