The draw for next summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship takes place in Tel Aviv on Wednesday and Israeli football is eagerly awaiting its moment in the spotlight, according to Avraham Luzon, president of the hosting Israel Football Association (IFA).

Speaking to UEFA.com on the eve of the draw, Luzon said there was a growing sense of anticipation at the prospect of Israel staging its first major football tournament next June. "There's suspense, there's excitement, and there's a lot of interest," he said.

Luzon explained that the preparations were "at their peak" for an event incorporating two "shining" new stadiums in Netanya and Petah Tikva, together with two revamped venues. "The two additional stadiums, Teddy and Bloomfield, are going through comprehensive renovations in order for them to be ready for the tournament's opening as well."

The scene will be set for Europe's finest U21 teams and Guy Luzon, coach of the home side, believes we really will be seeing the continent's best descend on Israel. "I've had a chance to watch the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, England, Russia. These are teams of the highest level," said the coach, nephew of Avraham Luzon. "I think this tournament will be hosting the best European teams, except for France."
