A play-off will be required to determine the continent's third nation at next year's Olympic Games football tournament after England fell short of making the UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-finals.

With the city of London hosting the 2012 Olympics, England – representing Great Britain – are already sure of a spot at the games. There are three other places available for European sides; the two finalists will qualify, while the losing semi-finalists will meet on 25 June in Aalborg at 15.00CET to determine the final place.

England required victory against the Czech Republic to progress on the final matchday in Group B, but conceded two late goals to lose 2-1.
