Germany strike late to see off Israel

Kevin Volland struck in added time to earn Rainer Adrion's side a friendly win away against the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship hosts.

Kevin Volland scored deep into added time to secure Germany a 2-1 friendly win against UEFA European Under-21 Championship hosts Israel at Bloomfield Stadium.

Playing in front of a 10,000-strong crowd, Israel fell behind to a Lewis Holtby goal on 36 minutes but responded via Eyal Golasa before half-time. That looked enough to earn the home side a share of the spoils, but fellow 2013 U21 hopefuls Germany had other ideas.

Rainer Adrion's charges began in determined mood as well, and they went ahead after Eli Dassa was penalised for handball in the area. Holtby stepped up to take the spot kick, and although his initial effort was saved by Boris Kleyman, the Tottenham Hotspur FC player was first to react to the rebound and headed in from close range.

Unperturbed, the hosts conjured an equaliser ahead of the break, with Golasa finishing well from inside the area after receiving the ball from Munnas Dabbur.

Germany were not to be denied, however, and regained the advantage seconds before the final whistle. Patrick Herrmann – due to join Joachim Löw's senior squad on Monday – picked out Volland from the right, and the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim striker arrowed a shot into the top right-hand corner.

Israel: Kleyman; Dassa (Verta 63), Tawatha (Davidzada 82), Ben-Harush, Gotlib (Vahaba 42); Kabah (Lugassi 72), Krieff (Azzam 63), Golasa, Sallalich (Altman 80); Dabbur (Micha 80), Barouch (Abed 72)

Germany: Leno; Jantschke (Ostrzolek 19), Sobiech (Rudiger 82), Jung, Thesker (Mustafi 82); Arslan (Vogt 46), Holtby, Esswein (Herrmann 61), Moritz (Polter 73); Mlapa (Clemens 61), Lasogga (Volland 46)
