The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) will conclude their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign with a new coach following the dismissal of Boban Babunski.
The Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) announced that "the decision is based on the results in qualifying as they do not correspond with the expectations, ambitions and quality of the U21 national side". FYROM are bottom of Group 8, having picked up just four points from six games; their only victory was 1-0 against Azerbaijan in November.
A former FK Vardar defender, capped by FYROM and Yugoslavia, Babunski was appointed caretaker coach of the senior national team in 2005. He took over the U21 side in July 2009. Babunski's successor, to be appointed in the coming weeks, will be at the helm for FYROM's final two qualifiers, both against Israel.
