Online ticket sales for this summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic have commenced, with Petr Fousek, head of the local organising committee (LOC), saying games have been priced to ensure they will be "accessible to everyone who loves football".

The eight-team tournament – the last before the finals expand to 12 nations for the competition's 2017 edition in Poland – takes place in the cities of Olomouc, Prague and Uherske Hradiste from 17 to 30 June. Individual match tickets for the group stage, semi-finals and final fall into one of two categories each, so the cheapest group tickets are available for CZK 100 (approximately €3.6), increasing to CZK 200 and CZK 250 respectively for the last-four fixtures and the decider at Prague's Stadion Eden.

A limited number of tickets in these three cheaper price categories have been reserved for persons with disabilities, while registered members of the Football Association of the Czech Republic (FAČR) can purchase tickets at a 20% discount. Fans can also buy a group venue ticket – comprising three tickets, one for every group game at a selected venue.

"We are very pleased with the interest in the final tournament, not only from abroad but also in the Czech Republic," said Mr Fousek at a press conference in Prague to publicise the start of online sales. "We have never had such a big event in the Czech Republic and I dare say there won't be anything similar for a long time.

"Our ticketing strategy is [designed] to achieve maximum attendances at all the stadiums. We adopted these ticket prices to [make sure of] that. They should correspond to prices for league games and as such they will be accessible to everyone who loves football."

Pavel Nedvěd, the tournament ambassador, said: "It will be a fantastic tournament. I would like to invite fans to the stadiums to watch great football. We should all come in big numbers to support our national team."

Scorer of 18 goals in 91 appearances for the Czech Republic, Nedvěd also discussed the hosts' chances of adding to the sole U21 title a squad featuring Petr Čech and Milan Baroš won in 2002. "The Czech team will be very focused on playing their best and showing the fans commitment and a will to win," he said.
