Lombaerts: Belgium fearing nobody

Belgium need only a point to secure a semi-final place and Nicolas Lombaerts explains why they can "go very far" at this UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

'Anything can happen'
Speaking ahead of their final Group A fixture against the Netherlands in Heerenveen, Lombaerts said Belgium have done enough in the first week of the tournament to justify the belief they should fear no one. "I think we have a lot of confidence in this team," he told uefa.com. "We've shown we have a lot of technique, a lot of maturity and mental strength so I think we can get very far. I've seen a lot of strong teams like Serbia and Italy and we don't have to fear anybody. Anything can happen in this tournament."

Cause for confidence
Belgium have yet to concede a goal in the northern Netherlands, following up an opening 0-0 draw with Portugal with Wednesday's 1-0 success against Israel. That latter result was achieved with just ten men and Lombaerts said their defensive strength is a cause for confidence. "[Against Israel] it was a game for defenders where you can prove yourself and I hope I did that well. The defence and the whole midfield, we defended very well, we stayed compact. We've shown a lot of maturity in the team. We've proved that already several times in the preparation games and this was again proof of that."

Making sure
Second in Group A, Jean-François De Sart's men must secure qualification by avoiding defeat against the Dutch, and the 22-year-old Lombaerts added: "One point is enough. I think the Netherlands played a very good game against Portugal [winning 2-1] and showed they have quality in their team. Maybe [we have been] the strongest team but we have to show it against the Netherlands. Hopefully we will qualify."
