The German Football Association (DFB) has announced that Rainer Adrion will take charge of the national Under-21 team from 1 July 2009.
Eilts dismissed
Currently the coach of VfB Stuttgart's amateur team, the 55-year-old will replace Horst Hrubesch after the UEFA European U21 Championship in June, where Germany meet Spain, Finland and England in Group B. Hrubesch was initially appointed on a temporary basis following the departure of Dieter Eilts in November. Adrion, a former Stuttgart player who has coached Stuttgarter Kickers, SpVgg Unterhaching and SSV Reutlingen, said "I'm excited about this job and would like to thank those responsible at VfB Stuttgart for releasing me."
Löw pleased
Senior coach Joachim Löw added: "During my time as head coach at Stuttgart [1996-98] Rainer was always a competent and reliable partner for me. Rainer is exactly the man who we've been looking for to provide a link to the A team. He's also someone who can implement our playing style [on the U21s]."
