Keld Bordinggaard has committed to lead hosts Denmark at the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship after signing a two-year contract extension.
Olsen's assistant
The former international, capped four times, coached at Vejle BK before becoming assistant to Denmark chief Morten Olsen in 2002. Together the pair led Denmark to the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2004™. Bordinggaard, 46, was appointed U21 coach in 2006 and will now stay on in the job until the end of the 2011 tournament on home soil.
'Big challenge'
"It will be a big challenge," he said. "It is a once-in-a-lifetime expereince to be in charge of a Danish U21 team in a major tournament in Denmark. I will not make a secret of the fact I am glad and proud to be given the responsibility for undertaking such a large international challenge."
Host cities
Denmark narrowly missed out on a place at this summer's U21 Championship in Sweden after they were beaten by Serbia in the play-offs. The draw for the 2011 qualifying group stage took place on Wednesday, with games at the finals to be staged in Århus, Aalborg, Herning and Viborg.
