Bustling Belgians go top

Belgium 5-0 San Marino Belgium moved to the top of qualifying Group 7 with the help of a Jeanvion Yulu-Matondo hat-trick in Roeselare.

Belgium moved to the top of qualifying Group 7 with a 5-0 win against San Marino in Roeselare.

Remarkable hat-trick
Club Brugge KV starlet Jeanvion Yulu-Matondo was the hero of the hour as he struck a remarkable hat-trick between the 15th and 21st minutes as the Belgians threatened to run amok at the Schiervelde stadium. By the interval it was 4-0 as Belgium captain Maarten Martens found the net.

Stretchered off
However, the flow of goals was stemmed just after the interval as Yulu-Matondo was stretchered off following a collision with the San Marino goalkeeper. The player left the field in a lot of pain and early reports suggest he may have broken a bone in his arm, hampering his hopes of playing for his club at the start of their UEFA Champions League campaign.

Missed penalty
Belgium took their foot of the pedal for the remainder of the game as Jonathan Blondel missed a penalty, but Martens scored a fifth goal later as the Sammarinese ended the game with ten players after one of them was shown a second yellow card.

'Nice victory'
"This was a nice victory," said Belgium coach Jean-François De Sart. "I am especially pleased with the game-play before half-time, when we played very fast and the goals were created with some excellent combinations. After the break were a bit slower and not so effective, but I am very statisfied with my players' performance."
