Jun guns down Romania

Czech Republic 4-1 Romania Tomáš Jun ended his long wait for a goal in spectacular fashion with a hat-trick.

The Czech Republic defeated Romania 4-1 at the Mestský stadium in Mlada Boleslav as Tomáš Jun ended his long wait for a goal in spectacular fashion by scoring a hat-trick.

Sole survivor
The AC Sparta Praha striker is the sole survivor from the Czech squad that won the European title in 2002 but prior to today's game had not scored for the Under-21s in 21 matches. He opened the scoring with a cross-shot in the 14th minute and after Michal Kadlec had added the Czechs' second goal in the dying seconds of the first half, Jun completed his hat-trick after the break.

Czechs close gap
He made it 3-0 from a Václav Sverkos corner in the 51st minute then struck from close range 16 minutes later. Romania, who still lead Group 1 with six points from three game, registered a late consolation through Nicolae Mitea. The Czechs are now second in the section with four points from two outings.
