Curth double delights Denmark

F.Y.R. Macedonia 0-3 Denmark A goal in each half from Jeppe Curth helped reward the away team for a dominant display and took them top of Group 11.

Two goals from Jeppe Curth helped reward Denmark for a dominant display in Skopje against F.Y.R. Macedonia as the margin of victory sent them top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group 11.

Early breakthrough
The away team were in charge from the kick-off with Simon Poulsen finding himself with only Filip Madzovski to beat in the 13th minute only for the goalkeeper to block the shot. A Danish breakthrough was not delayed for long, however, William Jørgensen providing the cross for Curth to head the opening goal in the 21st minute, and the same player might have doubled the lead seven minutes later but shot wide from five metres out.

Lorentzen lob
It was 2-0 five minutes into the second half, Denmark counterattacking swiftly and capitalising on a mistake from defender Vasko Mitrev that allowed Kasper Lorentzen to lift the second over the exposed Madzovski. Michael Jakobsen and Mikkel Thygesen both went close to a third with headers on goal - the latter’s effort striking the post - before Martin Bergvold set up Curth to make it three in the 69th minute.

Point required
There was still time for Martin Bernburg to miss an opportunity to make it four, but Denmark coach Keld Bordinggaard was still satisfied with a win that moves his side level with Sweden on three points ahead of the teams' decisive meeting in Farum on Tuesday night - with Denmark in pole position to reach the play-offs as their Scandinavian rivals only defeated F.Y.R. Macedonia 3-1. "I'm happy that my team got the win," said Bordinggaard. "This result means we will take first place in the group if we earn a draw against Sweden."
