Latvia were awarded a 3-0 victory after San Marino fielded an ineligible player.
Original match report:
Latvia's first home game of qualification for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship produced their opening Group 8 win after just one point had been taken from three away matches.
Promising start
Their campaign had started promisingly with a 1-1 draw in Serbia, but defeats in Hungary and Belarus had made this a must-win game for the home side. They duly obliged with Ivans Lukjanovs setting them on their way with the first goal after 30 minutes. Igors Kozlovs (55) ensured a first win would be forthcoming but Latvia still sit fourth in the group, five points behind leaders Belarus. San Marino remain bottom after suffering their third straight defeat.
