Hungary see off Serbia

Hungary 2-1 Serbia Under-21 finalists in the Netherlands 81 days ago, Serbia fell six points off the pace in Group 8 after this defeat in Budapest.

Serbia's aspirations of a place at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship were dealt a significant blow as they lost 2-1 in Hungary and the home side joined Belarus at the Group 8 summit.

Szalai influence
Serbia began brightly, looking to build on Saturday's 3-1 victory against Belarus, but fell behind midway through the half when Nikola Petković diverted Ádám Szalai's cross into his own net. Szalai was causing more problems just after the half-hour mark when his centre fell to Ádám Hrepka who doubled the advantage. The home team were made to work for the points after half-time, however, as Miralem Sulejmani pulled one back on the hour. Hungary quickly reasserted their authority, holding on to claim the win that takes them to ten points. Serbia, finalists in the Netherlands 81 days ago, are already six adrift with a game in hand.
