Spot-on Jakobsen steals thrilling win

Denmark 1-0 Slovenia
Goalless for so long, a spell of three dismissals in the last six minutes paved the way for Michael Jakobsen to seal a dramatic triumph.

A penalty from Denmark captain Michael Jakobsen stole his team a dramatic 1-0 victory against a Slovenia side to temporarily overtake Finland at the Group 6 summit in a game that saw three of the visitors sent off in the last six minutes.

Late drama
The Danes looked set for a goalless draw that would have all but ended their aspirations of reaching the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs as the game entered the last six minutes. Yet the fixture, which had been limited to Tim Matavs forcing a couple of Kasper Schmeichel saves in the first half, burst to life late on to the delight of the majority of the 2,854 spectators at the Aalborg Stadium. Miral Samardžič and Sebastjan Komel both received second yellow cards as the home side pressed in search of a winner before goalkeeper Safet Jahić was dismissed in added time and Michael Jakobsen kept his composure to convert a spot-kick. The win moves Denmark a point above Finland at the summit, albeit having played two games more.
