Kozhanov sees Russia past Poland

Russia 1-0 Poland Oleg Kozhanov's second-half strike proved the difference between the teams as Russia moved clear at the Group 4 summit.

Russia stole an early march in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 4 as a 1-0 victory at home to Poland saw them move three points clear at the summit.

Kozhanov strike
Having been awarded a 3-0 victory following the forfeiting of their opening fixture against Kazakhstan, Boris Stukalov's team made it two wins from two in Moscow and were on top from the start. . Oleg Kozhanov finally broke the deadlock 12 minutes after half-time on the rebound after Bartosz Bialkowski saved Vladimir Faizulin's fierce shot. That proved enough to secure the points and move Russia clear at the top of the table, though Poland can draw level if they beat Kazakhstan on Tuesday. Russia face the same side in their next outing on 12 October.
