Turkey remain in a strong position to reach the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying play-offs after defeating point-less Liechtenstein in Adana.
Two wins away
Although it took until the stroke of half-time for İlhan Parlak to break the deadlock, Nuri Şahin doubled the lead not long before the hour mark and Zafer Yelen completed the scoring late on. Turkey, who have won four times and drawn once in five Group 2 games, are now second in the section, a point ahead of Ukraine with two matches in hand. Moreover, they are now just a point adrift of the Czech Republic and have three fixtures left to the leaders' two. Should Turkey win their next fixture in Armenia on 20 August, another victory on 6 September at home to the Czechs will seal top spot and a play-off berth for the finals in Sweden. Liechtenstein have now played their last qualifier of this edition.
