Latvia commenced their bid to qualify for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with a 4-0 win against Andorra at the Skonto Stadium in Riga.

Gauračs penalty
The hosts put out their strongest lineup although it was not until the 42nd minute that they made the breakthrough. Latvia had created plenty of chances but failed to take them before Igors Tarasovs won a penalty which striker Edgars Gauračs duly dispatched. The second half continued in the same vein although Genadijs Šitiks's men were more clinical in front of goal. Artjoms Rudņevs made it 2-0 in the 71st minute and Ritvars Rugins placed a fine header on target soon after before Vadims Žuļevs rounded off the result in added time, giving Latvia a great start to their Group 1 campaign.
