Moldova deny Latvia third place in Group 1

The visitors clung on to third place in Group 1 though a Vasile Carauş own goal prompted a nervy finale in Jurmala.

Moldova managed to keep Latvia at arm's length in Group 1, with a 1-1 draw in Jurmala seeing them hold on to third place in their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying section.

With just a point separating the sides at kick-off, Serghei Chirilov's men had cause for concern, but doubts were eased considerably ten minutes before the break when Dmitrii Vornişel was first to the rebound after Iuri Bondarciuc's header failed to find the target. However, Moldova were made to sweat in the closing stages after Vasile Carauş put the ball into his own net under pressure from Latvia's forwards on 80 minutes.
