Poland add to Finland problems

Poland 2-1 Finland
Finland face an uphill battle to repeat their qualification for the 2009 finals after a second straight defeat in Group 4.

Finland face an uphill battle to repeat their qualification for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 championship finals after a 2-1 defeat by Poland left Markku Kanerva's side without a point after two matches in Group 4 – six behind their opponents, who have played a game more, and Spain.

Glik opener
Poland had plenty of opportunities in the first half but scored only once thanks to Kamil Glik's header a minute before the break. Substitute Teemu Pukki continued his impressive development with the equaliser early in the second period, but the outstanding Kamil Grosicki claimed the winner on 56 minutes for Andrzej Zamilski's charges.

Excellent Grosicki
Grosicki, playing on the right wing, tormented the Finland defence in the first half only to be let down by some wayward finishing while the visitors tried to surprise the hosts with quick counterattacks. Finland went close on 43 minutes when Akseli Pelvas's header was blocked by Wojciech Szczęsny and within a minute they were behind when central defender Glik found the net. Pukki, a half-time substitute, levelled on 51 minutes with a shot over Szczęsny, but Poland responded decisively when Grosicki dribbled through the away defence to score a marvellous solo effort.
