Alfei spot-on as Wales pay back Montenegro

Wales 1-0 Montenegro
Daniel Alfei scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Wales earned revenge on Montenegro in Group 3.

Daniel Alfei kept his cool to convert from the penalty spot and earn Wales a second UEFA European Under-21 Group 3 win, against Montenegro in Wrexham.

Swansea City AFC defender Alfei scored the only goal of the game just before the hour-mark after Aleksandar Šofranac had brought down forward Ryan Doble in the area and .

The Welsh move level on six points with the visitors, having played a game fewer, and earned sweet revenge after suffering a 3-1 defeat in Podgorica in September. Three second-half goals brought Montenegro back from behind but Wales had learned their lesson and there was no such comeback this time.

Lee Lucas and Jake Howells both went close for the home side early on before Ermin Seratlić missed the target for the visitors on the stroke of half-time. FC Steaua Bucureşti's Stefan Nikolić tested Christopher Maxwell before Alfei broke the deadlock.

Man of the match Thomas Bradshaw forced Pavle Velimirović into a save before Radivoje Golubović hit the woodwork and Stefan Mugoša fired off-target in the final minute as Wales held on. The young Dragons will hope for back-to-back wins as they take on unbeaten Czech Republic at the same ground on Tuesday.
