Four-goal Denmark too good for the Faroes

Denmark 4-0 Faroe Islands
Denmark secured their second Group 4 win courtesy of two goals in each half while Jóan Edmundsson missed a penalty for the visitors.

Denmark secured their second win in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 4 courtesy of two goals in each half, so condemning the visitors to their third defeat on the trot.

The hosts made an impressive start to the match and were ahead at the break thanks to two goals in quick succession from Rasmus Falk and Mads Albæk. Jóan Edmundsson then missed a golden opportunity to get the Faroe Islands back in the match from the penalty spot before Nicklas Helenius and Emil Larsen put the result beyond doubt.

Denmark began the match on the front foot and came close to taking an early lead only for Frederik Sørensen to fire over from close range. The visitors seemed content to play on the counterattack and only Gilli Sørensen's strike troubled Kristian Fæste in the Denmark goal before the break.

By then they were two goals behind. Morten Wieghorst's side took the lead on 15 minutes when Andreas Laudrup’s incisive pass found Falk, who finished expertly. Albæk doubled the advantage moments later with a superb volley.

Shortly after the break the Faroes were seemingly given a route back into the game when Jannik Vestergaard conceded a penalty for handball; however, Edmundsson's spot kick was well saved by Fæste.

Helenius sealed the win for Denmark with an excellent solo effort before Larsen completed the scoring in the 69th minute. Denmark will next travel to section leaders Serbia on 11 October knowing that victory will take them ahead of their opponents at the summit.
