Perfect Turkey sink ten-man Hungary

Turkey 2-1 Hungary
Turkey continued their impressive winning sequence with their fourth Group 7 victory against visitors who were reduced to ten men late on.

Turkey maintained their perfect 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying record with a fourth successive Group 7 victory in Istanbul.

The hosts dominated the match from the off but ultimately had to settle for a narrow margin of victory provided by Alper Potuk's second-half winner, after András Gosztonyi had cancelled out Zsolt Szokol's own goal.

The hosts made all the early running with Şahin Aygüneş and Serdar Aziz  coming close in the opening exchanges, but when Turkey's opening goal came it arrived via the unfortunate Szokol, who could only guide Özgür Çek's corner past his own goalkeeper after 18 minutes.

Raşit Çetiner's side continued to press, Sefa Yılmaz, Özgür and Musa Nizam each passing up presentable goalscoring chances while Şahin was denied by goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi on the stroke of half-time. Turkey were made to pay for their profligacy when András Gosztonyi levelled eight minutes after the interval, and when Şahin was denied once more by Gulácsi, the home side must have feared the worst.

Raşit's charges persisted, however, and again edged ahead when Alper  connected with Özgür's 64th-minute free-kick. Though Ádám Bódi's effort saved by Özkan Karabulut, the game was effectively up for Antal Róth's side once Tamás Tajthy was dismissed for a late foul on Özgür.
