Netherlands make light work of Luxembourg

Netherlands 4-0 Luxembourg
Genero Zeefuik's two goals helped Cor Pot's Netherlands team maintain their 100% record in Group 10 and go clear at the summit.

The Netherlands made it two wins from two in 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying courtesy of a comprehensive home success against Group 10 rivals Luxembourg.

The visitors came looking to stifle the Jong Oranje in Deventer but their plan began to unravel as early as the eighth minute, when Genero Zeefuik opened the scoring. Cor Pot's charges struggled to build on that breakthrough, however, and the 2,000-strong crowd had to wait until close to the hour mark for Zeefuik's second, with Leroy Fer and Rick van Haaren then adding late goals after Luxembourg's Pit Hess was dismissed.

The home side got off to the best of starts when Zeefuik shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net from 25 metres out, yet that was as good as it got for the Netherlands in the first half, Marco van Ginkel notably firing too high after initially being denied by Luxembourg No1 Yan Heil when through on goal. Ultimately, it fell to Zeefuik to make the difference again, the PSV Eindhoven striker currently on loan at NEC Nijmegen heading in a Luciano Narsingh cross.

Narsingh then triggered goal number three, as his run into the area was halted too brusquely by Hess. That brought a second yellow card for the Luxembourg defender and allowed Fer to register from the spot, and there was still time for substitute Rick van Haaren to make space for himself on the right and bury low inside the far post. The victors are next in action away against Austria on 6 October, when Luxembourg host Scotland.
