Morrison drives England past Lithuania

England 5-0 Lithuania
Inspired by in-form Ravel Morrison, England cruised to an emphatic victory that puts them in a promising position at the top of Group 1.

England remain unbeaten after posting a third win in four UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 1 matches, comfortably dispatching Lithuania 5-0 in Ipswich.

Gareth Southgate's team produced an impressive performance and never looked back after surging into a third-minute lead through Ravel Morrison. A powerful free-kick from James Ward-Prowse doubled the lead before the break. Another Morrison goal accompanied a second-half pair from Saido Berahino as England finished the game in style and took a promising position at the top of the section.

Morrison had impressed on his U21 debut in the 4-0 success in San Marino last week and he continued where he left off at Portman Road, opening the scoring inside three minutes after Wilfried Zaha's efforts on the left. The skilful No10 was at the heart of everything, and even Ward-Prowse's 27th-minute set-piece goal – his first strike for his country – came as a result of Morrison being brought down.

There was no let-up from a rampant England in the second period. Berahino notched his third in as many outings, before Morrison sparkled again, winning possession and surging through the defence, feigning his way past the goalkeeper to score. On 76 minutes Edgaras Žarskis brought down Jack Robinson in the box and Berahino duly converted to complete the victory.
