Stylish Sweden see off Greece

Sweden 3-0 Greece
John Guidetti scored one goal and Isaac Thelin two as Sweden moved second in Group 7 and set up a thrilling finale on Tuesday.

Sweden set up a thrilling conclusion to UEFA European Under-21 qualifying Group 7 with an impressive victory against Greece, meaning the section's top four teams are covered by just three points ahead of Tuesday's final qualifiers.

The home side began the evening two points behind Greece and, after a slow start, took control from the midway point of the first half. John Guidetti forced a good save from Sokratis Dioudis with an early header while Simon Gustafson had a shot blocked with half-time approaching following an incisive Swedish move.

The breakthrough did arrive early in the second period, Guidetti beating the goalkeeper from 30 metres out with a fine free-kick. The goal changed the game; Greece began to enjoy more possession while Sweden sought to threaten on the counterattack, and it was the latter who found more joy.

A second goal arrived 17 minutes from time, Isaac Thelin bursting clear after a mistake in the Greece defence and keeping his head to slip the ball between Dioudis' legs for 2-0. The same player added a clinching third a minute into added time, Oscar Hiljemark setting him free with a fine pass.

The win means Sweden now have 13 points, the same as Turkey – 3-0 winners in Malta tonight – and two adrift of leaders Poland. Greece, who are on 12 points, are at home to Poland on Tuesday; Sweden also have home advantage as they play Turkey.
