Azerbaijan and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia began their 2013/15 UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaigns with a goalless draw in Baku.

It took until the 32nd minute of the Group 8 encounter for the first effort to materialise, Aleksandar Trajkovski shooting wide from Filip Timov's cross. With half-time approaching, Azerbaijan goalkeeper Andriy Popovich kept his team on level terms with a double save from Trajkovski and, then, Stefan Askovski. At the other end, Timur Temeltas found Fatih Sanli but the No11, delaying, had his shot deflected for a corner.

FYROM were reduced to ten men after 65 minutes when Stojan Stojcevski was shown a second yellow card. Thereafter they were indebted to Stole Dimitrievski, who made three saves, the last a brilliant stop to deny Temeltas four minutes from time.
