Iceland made sure of a top-two finish by beating Armenia in style in Reykjavik as the away side were punished heavily after missing a host of chances.
Eyjólfur Sverrisson's side ensured Group 10 leaders France have to wait until they host Iceland on 8 September to confirm top spot and a play-off place. Holmbert Fridjonsson, a constant threat to Armenia's defence, headed the hosts in front in the 24th minute before he doubled the lead from the penalty spot (57). Emil Atlason's eight goal in just seven games (68) and Ólafur Karl Finsen (90) completed the rout.
Armenia, who had just one less attempt than their opponents, were punished for their profligacy as Fridjonsson met Gudmundur Thórarinsson's pinpoint free-kick to head Iceland into the lead. Jón Dadi Bödvarsson won a second-half penalty for the hosts which Fridjonsson converted. Atlason is just one goal behind UEFA European Under-21 Championship top goalscorer Arkadiusz Milik of Poland after notching his eighth goal following a left-wing cross by Hordur Magnússon. Two substitutes combined to complete the victory as Finsen finished well from Aron Elís Thrándarson's pass.
