Frankfurt have foot in semis

1. FFC Frankfurt were 3-0 winners against Odense BK in their quarter-final first leg in Denmark.

Danish champions Odense BK were left with a mountain to climb after they suffered a 3-0 home defeat against 1. FFC Frankfurt in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Cup quarter-final.

Wunderlich opener
Both sides began nervously but it was Frankfurt, the German champions, who found their stride first. The German side took the lead after 22 minutes when Birgit Prinz burst into the box and squared the ball back for the on-rushing Pia Wunderlich who finished with ease. Nine minutes later Prinz got on the scoresheet herself when she lauched a 20-metre drive into the top right-hand corner.

Jones makes it three
Eight minutes before the break Steffi Jones made it three with another shot from distance - leaving Frankfurt eyeing a semi-final against either Arsenal FC or Toulouse FC. First, of course, they must avoid complacency in the second leg at home to the Danes on 31 March.

'Thanks to our fans'
Coach Monica Staab was delighted with her players after the match. "The 3-0 win gives us a great chance of reaching the semi-finals," she said. "I would like to say a special thanks to our fans who had a 20-hour bus journey to get here. They were our 12th player on the pitch today."
