Hingst double propels Potsdam

SK Trondheims-Ørn 1-3 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam (agg: 1-7) Ariane Hingst puts the German side into the final.

By Mark Bennett

Two goals from Ariane Hingst helped 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam record a 3-1 win in the second leg of their UEFA Women's Cup semi-final away to SK Trondheims-Ørn and secure their place in the final 7-1 on aggregate.

Mittag scores
Hingst cancelled out Heidi Pedersen's opening goal for the Norwegian side eight minutes into the second half with a glorious shot from 30 metres before adding her second of the afternoon after Anja Mittag had put the German side ahead. Trondheim never recovered and in the end Potsdam cruised into the final where they will meet Djurgården/Älvsjö, who defeated Arsenal LFC on Friday night.

Potsdam unchanged
Potsdam went into the match holding a 4-0 lead from the first leg, and coach Bernd Schröder opted for the same side that had put in such a commanding performance last week. Trondheim made a single change with Siv Skard being replaced by Inger Ane Hole.

Pedersen strike
Potsdam looked the better side early on but as time ticked away Trondheim took control, living up to their promise of putting on a much better display than in the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion. Four minutes before the break they were rewarded for their efforts when Pedersen gave them the lead.

Hingst hammer
But the German champions maintained their focus and shattered any hopes Trondheim had of staging an unlikely recovery eight minutes into the second half when Hingst scored with a tremendous shot from 30 metres. After that it was business as usual for Potsdam. Mittag gave them the lead on 67 minutes and only three minutes later Hingst struck again to give the German side an impressive 7-1 aggregate win.
