Potsdam put five past Røa again

German champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam repeated their first-leg scoreline against Norway's Røa IL to set up a semi-final with domestic rivals FCR 2001 Duisburg.

Already leading the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final 5-0 from their home game a week ago, Potsdam increased their lead on the half-hour through Anja Mittag. In the second period Fatmire Bajramaj, Mittag, Yuki Nagasato and Jessica Wich added further goals.

Røa were hoping to restore pride after their reverse in Germany but goalkeeper Caroline Knutsen was called into action on nine minutes to deny Nagasato. Ada Finskud then went close for the home side but Potsdam were on top and found the target when Bajramaj crossed from the left Mittag to tap in.

Mittag forced Knutsen into a save early in the second half but the goalkeeper was beaten when the striker found Jennifer Zietz, who drew the Røa No1 before setting up Bajramaj to shoot into an empty net. Seven minutes later Bajramaj teed up Mittag to score her ninth goal of Potsdam's campaign, and it was 4-0 when Nagasato – who scored on her European debut last week – finished from substitute Tabea Kemme's pass.

On the counter from Røa's best chance of the half, Jessica Wich completed the scoring with eight minutes left to ensure Potsdam would indeed meet Duisburg in the semi-finals, with Turbine away in the second weekend of April and at home a week later. Before that the two sides have meetings in both the Frauen-Bundesliga and the German Cup semi-finals.

Røa coach Geir Nordby, whose team will return to the competition next year having won the 2009 Norwegian title, said: "After the first leg we knew we didn’t have any chance to advance in the tournament but still I think we played better today than the last time. We are of course very disappointed with the result, but we lost for a much better team. We are happy to have come this far, and to get the opportunity to play international matches at this level gives us a lot of experience to build on in the future."
