Perfect Lyon brush aside Juvisy

Olympique Lyonnais defeated fellow UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finalists FCF Juvisy Essonne 2-0 to keep up their perfect domestic season and gain the psychological edge ahead of a possible European last-four match-up.

Fielding United States winger Megan Rapinoe on her French league debut, Lyon went ahead at Stade de Gerland just before half-time when Camille Abily turned in a cross from Élodie Thomis. On 54 minutes Eugénie Le Sommer replaced Rapinoe and promptly set up Lotta Schelin to double the lead. There were no more goals but Lyon were able to introduce newly-signed Japan striker Shinobu Ohno late on.

Lyon are now six points clear of Paris Saint-Germain FC having won all 14 of their fixtures. Juvisy – the last team to beat Lyon, in a French Cup penalty shoot-out in April 2011 – are back in fourth, eight points behind PSG with eight games to go. Both teams have Swedish opposition in next month's quarter-finals, holders Lyon playing FC Malmö and Juvisy taking on Göteborg FC, with the winners matched in the last four in April.

The only other of the quarter-finalists not currently in close season or a winter break are ASD Torres CF, who remain unbeaten and four points clear of UPC Tavagnacco in Italy after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat of ASD Mozzanica though unusually 23-goal league top scorer Patrizia Panico was not on target. Their European opponents Arsenal LFC, now under new management in Shelley Kerr, had their planned home friendly against Norwegian champions LSK Kvinner FK on Friday postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
